1 Answer any three of the following in about 400 words 30 each :

(a) “Education without philosophy is blind and philosophy without education is lame.” In light of this statement explain the mutual relationship between education and philosophy and state the impact of philosophy on the aims of education and curriculum.
(b) Explain the characteristic of Realism and state its impact on aims of education and curriculum.

(c) What do you mean by equality of opportunity in education ? Explain the importance of equal opportunities in a education in democratic country like India. Discuss the obstacles that come in way of equal opportunities in education.

(d) What is economic development ? State the limitations of education as a medium of economic development. What changes should be made in the educational system for the National Economic Development ?

(e) Discuss the following points with reference to the educational philosophy of Maharshi Aurobindo :
(i) Concept of Education (ii) Aims of Education
(iii) Methods of Education.

2 (a) Explain the place and importance of Directive 8 Principles of State Policy in Indian Constitution. State the difference between Directive Principles of State Policy and Fundamental Rights.
(b) What are the present problems of Secondary 8 Education in Gujarat State ? Evaluate critically the measures taken by Gujarat State for the qualitative improvement of Secondary Education.

2 (a) In the light of the educational philosophy of the 8 great philosopher Dr. John Duew, discuss the following points :
(i) Aims of education (ii) Role of a teacher.
(b) Explain the importance of education for the national 8 unity and integrity in the present Indian situation. Which co-curriculum activities will you plan to promote national unity among the students ?

3 Answer any four of the following questions in about 200 words : 20
(a) Explain the ancient and modern concept of education. State the salient features of Modern Education.
(b) What do you mean by Life Long Education ? What is the importance of life long education in a developing country like India ?
(c) Explain the aims of education and the role of a teacher from the view point of idealism.
(d) What do you mean by Distance Education ? How does Distance Education differ from Traditional Education ?
(e) What is Modernisation ? What role can education play in modernising society ?
(f) What is the concept of Education according to the view point of Late Shri Gijubhai ? State the important principles of his educational philosophy.

4 Answer any six of the following in about 150 words each : 24
(a) Suggest the measures for the growth of effectiveness of formal education.
(b) What are the significant aims of N.C.C. Training ?
(c) What are the negative effects of population growth on education ?
(d) “Education for Harmonious development is not possible.” –Explain.
(e) “Eradication of illiteracy is inevitable for the success of democracy”. Give your arguments in support of the statement.
(f) What are the limitations of education in bringing about social change ?
(g) State the educational measures to overcome poverty.
(h) What educational programmes can be suggested in relevance to the education for Human Resources Development ?

5 Write answers as directed : 10
(a) From the view point of Bertrand Russell what are the advantages of residential schools ?
(b) As per Article 45 Education for the children of age group 6 to 14 is free and compulsory. In spite of this it has not become universal. Give four reasons for that.
(c) Differentiate between Religious Education and Education for Secularism.
(d) Give two limitations of Utilitarian Education.
(e) Give the best definition of education you like and write a critical note on it.
