1. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow:-
Ashoka was one of the greatest ruler of India. He extended the Maurya Empire to the whole of India, reaching out even into Central Asia. Ashoka succeeded in conquering Kalinga after a bloody war in which 1,00,000 men were killed, 1,50,000 injured and thousands were captured and retained as slaves. The sight of the slaughter involved in his conquest deeply effected his mind. He renounced war and sought peace in Budha’s preaching of love and non violence. So he gave up hunting.
