6. (a) Define the scope of History.
(b) Bring out the relationship between history and Archaeology.
7. (a) Write a note on Philosophy of history.
(b) Explain objectivity in history.
8. (a) Discuss the characteristic features of church historiography.
(b) Estimate Gibbon as an Enlightenment historian.
9. (a) Assess the historical contribution of Bana.
(b) Evaluate T.V. Mahalingam as an historian.
10. (a) Write a note on private papers as source material.
(b) Explain the importance of bibliography.

SECTION C — (3 ´ 20 = 60 marks)

Each answer should not exceed 1,200 words.

11. (a) Explain the nature, value and uses of history.
(b) “History is a science no less, no more” — Explain.
12. (a) Analyse the salient features of ancient Greek Historical writings.
(b) Estimate the contribution of Ranke to Modern historiography.
13. (a) Examine in detail the contribution made by Muslim historians during the Medieval
Indian History.
(b) Give an account of the various stages involved in historical research.
