d) Differentiate between loose sentence and periodic sentence with the help of examples.
e) Draft a short note on conjunction and the role it plays in a sentence.

f) Describe the rules/ methods and procedure to read a dictionary.
g) What do you understand by subject- verb agreement? Mention its’ rules.
h) Do you agree with the statement that effective communication is the key to success in any walk of life? If yes, why?

a) Fill in the blanks in the following passage with correct tense of the verbs:
Reading skill is always taken for granted at the tertiary level. Most of us believe that our students ———- (be) good at reading, as they ———- (practise) the skill for more than ten years. In reality many students ———- (find) it difficult to master it. Besides it is a fact that some of them ———- (not develop) the reading skill even in their mother tongue.

b) Correct errors of subject – verb agreement in the following sentences :
i) The army have established control of the village.
ii) Nuclear reactors produce wastes and the disposal of these wastes are a serious problem.
