5. (a) List and explain in detail,the ways through which reading comprehension skills can be improved. [7M]
(b) Study the process of preparation of cement from rice husk and prepare a flow chart showing its various stages. Rice husk is produced in large quantities in rice mills. When rice husk is burnt in the open or under controlled temperature in a furnace, it leaves a residue in the form of a highly reactive ash. This ash, when it is mixed with lime acquires cementitious properties and has the potential to replace portland cement either fully or partially in certain construction works. Scientists of the G.B University of Agriculture and Technology have developed cement from rice husk. This cement produced is mixed with sand to prepare mortar which can be used for plastering purposes. But its compressive strength is low, at 30 kg per Sq.cm. [7M]
6. (a) What is the role of subject knowledge and vocabulary in scanning? Explain in detail. [7M]
(b) Mention the types of reading. Exemplify how each type of reading is helpful in understanding the main idea of the writer. [7M]
