** Malayalam version of the questions is also provided.
** Give equations wherever necessary
** Electronics devices except nonprogrammable calculators are not allowed in the Examination Hall.

Answer the Questions :
1. A regulated power supply is quite essential in electronic circuits.
(a) …….diode is commonly used in a voltage regulator (zener diode, ordinary diode, photodiode, PIN diode)
(b) Draw the block diagram of a regulated power supply unit

2. A digital comparator circuit is used to compare two data in microprocessors. This circuit is designed using logical gates.
a) If A and B are two bits, …….logical gate is used to compare if they are equal or not.
(b) Write the truth table for the above gate.
(c) Draw a 1-bit comparator circuit

2. (a) …….is a digital circuit used to route information from several lines into a single line.
(b) Draw the truth table for a combinational logic circuit to transmit 4 data inputs into a single output
(c) Realize the above circuit using basic logic gates

3. Now a days, optical fiber communication is widely used for long distance communication such as telephones.
(a) In optical fiber communication system, electrical signals are converted into light using……… (Photodiode, laser diode, phototransistor, APD)
(b) Explain the advantages of using optical fiber cables instead of copper cables in communication
(c) A PIN photodiode is a better light detector than a pn photodiode. Why?

4. (a) In Indian TV system (625 line TV system) ………scanning is used (Progressive scanning, interlaced scanning, document scanning, none)
(b) …….modulation is used for picture signals in TV transmission. (DSB, SSB, SSB-SC, VSB)
(c) A complete TV channel, occupies a bandwidth of ….for transmission
(d) To avoid flickering, frame rate has to be increased. But this increases the bandwidth requirements in TV transmission. Suggest a method to avoid flicker without increasing bandwidth.

5. (a) …..is a device used to get a hardcopy output from a computer (keyboard, printer, mouse, RAM) (1)
(b) A laser printer provides a better quality output when compared to a dot matrix printer. With the help of diagram, explain the working of laser printer. (3)
(c) ……memory is the fastest memory in computer (cache, primary memory, secondary memory, none) (1)

6. (a) Networking between computers provides us with several advantages. Mention any four advantages. (2)
(b) ……is a hardware component that allows a computer to get connected to the network. (1)
(c) Web pages are designed using….. (C, C++, HTML, FORTRAN) (1)
(d) Modems are essential for communication between two computers in internet. Explain. (2)
