Answer Question No.1 from Group A and any Two Questions from Group-B and any – Two Questions from Group-C
Group-A :
1. a) Work and Tumble imposition scheme is not usually unless otherwise required. Discuss the reason behind this.
b) Buckle folder is not generally used for folding the printed material used for book production purpose whereas knife folder is used for the same purpose. Why?

(c) What are the purposes of back lining?
(d) Any job planned for hand folding should not be used for machine folding whereas any job planned for machine folding may be used for hand folding. Why? –

e) After sewing of the assembled sections of the book, it has been found that there is a difference in thickness between the fore edge and the spine of the book. Why? How can it be eliminated?
(f) What are the purposes of sewing the sections of the book?

Group-B :
2. a) The number of pages in a section of a book will be considered at the beginning of the planning. Why? 4

b) What are the methods employed to assemble the folded sections of a book? Of these methods which one is used for the assembly of sections of a book comprising of 50 sections and to be bound by sewing and conventional binding?
(c ) Discuss in brief, the different methods adopted for automatic gathering of book sections. –

3. a) Define folding to Paper and “folding to print.
(b) Compare between knife folder and buckle folder.
(c) Discuss with neat sketch the operation of knife folder.
(d) Compare between collating and gathering

4.a) i) What are the purposes of rounding a book?
(ii) Discuss in brief, the methods used for rounding the book.

(b)i) What are the purposes of backing a book?
(i) Discuss in brief, the methods used for backing the book.
(c) Discuss in brief, the different methods used for attaching the cover boards with the book.

5. (a) Discuss in brief, the different types of loom sewing used for conventional binding
(b) How do the grain directions of the paper affect the perfect adhesive binding?

6. (a) What are the basic differences between loose leaf and mechanical binding?
(b) Discuss in brief, the different types of mechanical binding systems used.
(c) Discuss how the type of paper influences the adhesive perfect binding.

7. (a) Discuss with neat sketches the different types of Post-binders used loose leaf binding.
(b) Perfect binding is not usually used in Magazine production. Why?
